Ye Olde Silver Bells and more

Thursday, December 22, 2005

Musicologist and Washington DC dj Dick Spottswood recently compiled a collection of unusual Christmas music from 1917 to 1959, entitled Where will you Be Christmas Day. He also has kept tabs on how Christmas music has evolved over the last century, the turning point being, significantly, the IrvingBerlin classic, "White Christmas." which debuted in 1942 in the movie musical Holiday Inn. He'll join us to play music from the two sides of the spectrum: low-key Christmas music from the early part of the century and the '50s blockbusters that changed Christmas music into what it is today.
