Playful yet academicin a non-stiff wayis how you might characterize the music of Don Byron. Today, the Bronx-based clarinetist and provocateur gives us a taste of his new CD, which is a recreation of a 1946 recording by the great saxophonist Lester Young. Recorded with pianist Jason Moran and drummer Jack DeJohnette, the disc shows the potential of interpreting and putting a modern signature on a classic live recording.
