Now that we know which of New York's arts organizations will be housed at Ground Zero, it's time to ask an important question: will these art centers really have any significant cultural impact? John Rockwell isn't sure. New York Times cultural correspondent joins us today to discuss whether arts gentrification can take hold in Lower Manhattan. Also on the show: Music by African-American composers still turns up all too rarely in concert halls and on disc, even when Black History Month rolls around. A concert this week by the Florida-based Ritz Chamber Players addresses this fact by presenting leading black composers including Coleridge-Taylor Perkinson and George Walker, among others. The ensemble joins us today along with British soprano Alison Buchanan for a conversation and live performance.
