At age 33, Leif Ove Andsnes is already a Norwegian national institution and a lead figure on the global concert circuit. Now on the cusp of a U.S. tour that includes a recital this weekend at Lincoln Center, the down-to-earth pianist joins host John Schaefer to shed light on the finer points of concertizing in an age that values virtuoso pyrotechnics above all else. Speaking of virtuosos, we are also joined by saxophonist Phillip Johnson and accordion player Guy Klucevsek, who have been investigating the boundaries between jazz, blues, classical and contemporary music for over two decades. As demonstrated on their newest CD together, “Tales from the Cryptic,” they express the overlap of those intersections with a wry sense of wit and a mysterious charm that defies description.
