"Beneath this Gruff Exterior" is the 18th release to date from veteran singer/songwriter John Hiatt. Recorded in just eight days, Hiatt brings some of these new "rocking" tunes to the Soundcheck studio for a live performance and a chat about a life in music and broadcasting. Also, we go on location to St. Thomas Church in midtown to talk to Gregory D'Agostino of the American Guild of Organists, who is running a week-long pipe organ education program for young musicians from all over the country. And Nashville native Laura Cantrell (pictured) delivers alt-country music with a New York twist. She makes her debut at the Grand Ole Opry next Friday, but she performs in New York first – as part of the Madison Square Park free concert series.
