Composer, screenwriter and bandleader Everton Sylvester writes song poems that evoke the island of Jamaica and the borough of Brooklyn. Sylvester will join host John Schaefer to talk about the connections between poetry and music, and new ways of listening to the sounds of the city. Pianist D.D. Jackson is also using the combination of music and poetry in powerful ways. He stops by today to discuss "Suite for New York," a jazz/classical work scored for strings, horns, piano trio and poetry that celebrates New York and also reflects on the events of 9/11.
