Since the Federal Communications Commission loosened restraints on media ownership earlier this year, many music industry observers have wondered what will happen to the recording and radio business in the face of consolidation and reduced choices. Today on Soundcheck, New York Times music critic Jon Pareles stops by to shed some light on this hot-button subject and ask if there is still room for diversity in an age of monopolies. Also on the show, we look at a very non-corporate form of music-making with Canadian singer-songwriter Jane Siberry. She owns her own independent internet record label, SHEEBA, and stops by for a live performance in the WNYC studios.
