Two of the more intriguing minds in the piano world join host John Schaefer today. French pianist Pierre Laurent Aimard is a master of modern music, but unlike the many new-music specialists around New York, his playing has a refreshing sense of brilliance and flair. Next week he appears at Carnegie's Zankel Hall to tackle Olivier Messiaen's epic "Vingt Regards sur l'Enfant-Jesus" and he joins us today on Soundcheck to offer an in-studio performance. Also on the show is Alexander Toradze, the Russian-born pianist and director of the famed Toradze Piano Studio. Based at Indiana University South Bend, the group of pianists comprises several generations, ranging from students to fully formed virtuosos.
