Inspired by an unofficial student group of the 1960s that specialized in new music, the New Juilliard Ensemble presents music from contemporary composers around the world. Joel Sachs, the group’s founder and conductor, and Mongolian pianist and composer Sansar Sangidorj visit with some new music from the other side of the globe. Plus, a live performance by acclaimed English cellist Steven Isserlis, who also discusses his new children’s book, about the amusing personal lives of the world’s greatest composers.
Steven Isserlis is the grandson of Russian pianist and composer Julius Isserlis, and a distant relative of Mendelssohn and Karl Marx. He is also the artistic director of the International Musicians Seminar in England.
