Grandpa

Friday, February 01, 2008

How do we deal with dying? Most of us look away. But in the case of the Zagar family, they look closer. A father and son have a contest to take the best pictures of their dying grandpa, and the result is an up-close portrait of death. This piece was produced by Lu Olkowski.

The link to the slideshow is dead. Go to http://www.wnyc.org/shows/radiolab/episodes/2007/06/15/segments/71877 for the correct link. Be prepared. It is powerful.

I love the discovery and important information on a variety of subjects that I find on Radio Lab.

However, I cannot tolerate the repetition of simple words by one to three people. (It is as if you are DUMBING DOWN the information for persons who cannot follow it b/c of their limited ability to focus the first time.)

After listening to the program for more than 10 minutes, I realize that there is no need to listen as closely as I normally do to WNYC b/c Radio Lab is just going to say the same thing again many times, either different ppl using the same exact words or in some one else's rephrasing of the idea.

Request: Can you pls. be a bit more discriminating on what you need to repeat for effect. Such a shame to take an intellectual show and dumb it down every minute.
