Warning: this section gets gorey. We'll start off with fatality, trauma, and bear attack. Neurologists Robert Sapolsky and Antonio Damasio weigh in on 19th century philosopher William James, and his theory of emotion (and of bears), which says “emotion is a slave to physiology.”
Then we'll look at sensations of feeling that hang on long after the physiology goes away. Radio Lab takes a field trip to the National Museum of Health and Medicine, Armed Forces Institute of Pathology (a collection of medical oddities), and finds a photograph of the severed feet of Civil War soldiers (pictured, on the right.). And then we'll speed back into the present-day to see brain doctor V.S. Ramachandran solve the case of a painful phantom limb. Pain relief by but mere smoke and mirrors.

I have tried to download an mp3 version of your shows but like many sites it seems so complicated that finally i will not listen to your show. A download mp3 button would be nice and easy, and the del.icio.us that i have installed in order to get your shows will be uninstalled in a few seconds.
Robert, I agree. I like the show, but to download the podcast is next to impossible.
Is there a step by step set of instructions on how I can listen to a podcast? If so where?
I cannot listen to any of your shows. Why can't there be an easy link as w/ This American Life?
The show is a great show, but it is indeed difficult to get some of the episodes off of the feed. The pages for episodes of different weeks don't appear to be done in a consistent format, making it that much harder.

Thank you for the link to the free mp3 download. Just wanted you to know that you can't copy and paste just the link. You get the entire top of the page or the bottom of the page (beyond the link).
I finally copied it all into a Word document, then copied just the link, then pasted that into my browser.
