A vote MDC sign in ZimbabweUndercover in Zimbabwe
For the WNYC/ Radio Netherlands collaboration week, Radio Lab will present two current, international documentaries. Produced by RN reporter Eric Beauchemin, the stories are the result of his recent undercover work in Zimbabwe - a condition necessitated by the severe restrictions on foreign journalists.
Radio Labs Jad Abumrad will talk with Beauchemin about his work in a country long considered the 'breadbasket of Africa' that is now suffering after three
years of a violent national crisis.
Radio Netherlands is one of very few non-African news organizations that has been closely following developments in Zimbabwe, a country comparable in size to California or Iraq. While all eyes are firmly focused on the Middle East, there is an increasingly volatile situation in Zimbabwe as a result of the ruling party's suppression of all opposition.
