Primary Colors: Paul Krassner
Saturday, January 26, 2008
Steve’s old friend and unindicted coconspirator Paul Krassner is this week’s guest political commentator. Krassner published the satirical magazine, the Realist, from1958 to 2001. But when People Magazine called Krassner “father of the underground press,” he immediately demanded a paternity test. In 1968, Paul co-founded the Yippies – the Youth International Party – with Abbie Hoffman and Jerry Rubin. The FBI called him “a raving, unconfined nut,” a soubriquet he wears with pride. In 2004, at the Cannabis Cup in Amsterdam, Krassner was inducted into the Counterculture Hall of Fame, which, he claims, was his ambition since he was three years old. How many of us realize our childhood dreams? Steve also delivers a paean to flat screen television and reveals his point of affinity with Luciano Pavarotti.
Primary Colors – Richard Milner
Saturday, January 19, 2008
Steve Post and his guest, anthropologist and songwriter Richard Milner, discuss the evolutionary impact of American politics (mostly bad), religion’s influence on public affairs (mostly bad), and the descent of man in the form of candidate Mike Huckabee (mostly bad). Steve raises the question, Is creationism uniquely a Christian phenomenon? (Actually, he says “Christian development,” because he just couldn’t quite get “phenomenon” out of his mouth.) The answer will appall you, so don’t miss it. It will keep your bile boiling for days. And what else is The NO SHOW all about?
Political Colors – Emily Levine
Saturday, January 12, 2008
Steve Post and guest Emily Levine, The NO SHOW imbedded political correspondent, dissect the body politic and can find neither its heart nor guts. It does, however, show all the symptoms of acromegaly. If politics is not your thing, be tranquil: the program also contains a lot of potty humor, although admitting it makes us flush with shame. The music is unsettling.
Back In The Saddle (Sore)
Saturday, January 05, 2008
Steve Post has accumulated a considerable store of spleen in the months he has been off the air, and he vents lots of it on this, the first of a special limited series of five NO SHOWs. The state of American politics particularly galls him, but he has ire to spare for cellphonatics and the MacArthur Foundation. If you have never listened to The NO SHOW before, this is probably not the time to start. But if you have listened before, how much more harm could it do you? The music is impolitic.
