Almost Live from NYC!

Saturday, April 24, 2004

Almost live from New York City, it's Steve Post with his special and frequent guest, Emily Levine, in a dialog on wines they have known and loved; pets they have known and, in some instances, loved; and the possibilities of interspecies, if not intraspecies, communications. Frank Millspaugh occasionally mumbles something elliptical. A good show. Probably the best thing on the air at this hour on this radio station.

Encore

Saturday, April 17, 2004

Encore Performance. This week's program is devoted to the works of Woody Guthrie, "the most important folk artist of at least the first half of the twentieth century." Pete Seeger and Jim Longhi share anecdotes of their friendships with Guthrie. Caution: Mature audiences may become emotionally overcome. Steve Post hosts.

The Late Bayard Rustin

Saturday, April 10, 2004

Steve Post recounts his acquaintance with the late Bayard Rustin, who was a singer as well as a major civil rights leader. Steve plays several of his pieces and many more spirituals and gospel songs by other artists, including Paul Robeson, Sister Rosetta Tharpe, Aretha Franklin, Mavis Staples and more.

The Subject of Saliva

Saturday, April 03, 2004

Steve Post waxes rhapsodic on the subject of saliva, its salutary functions and ways to supplement it when it is in insufficient supply. Hear Steve get spitting mad at his attempts to pronounce "sodium carboxy methylcellulose." Note that he does not refer to anyone as a "spitting image," an oversight he will correct in the future. The music features a "Flashback" to a 1940 WNYC live broadcast of Huddie Ledbetter or "Leadbelly." All in all, it's a better than average show.
