    Vaults: Max Roach & Uptown String Quartet

    Legendary drummer and composer Max Roach plays his 4-part inventions for drum kit, recorded on location as part of the New Sounds Live concert series. Look forward to some participatory drumming by the audience on this 1994 From the Vaults New Sounds program. Plus, daughter Maxine Roach and the rest of the Uptown String Quartet play their infectious blend of jazz, funk and new music.

From October 30, 1989, the infamous "cooking show" with composer/raconteur Robert Moran. Recorded while cooking an Indian dinner in John Schaefer's kitchen, for reasons still not entirely clear. Along the way, we hear an "acoustic" version of Cage's 0:00 - for amplification of chopping vegetables and blender. And don't miss the teary conversation as onions are chopped. View the the recipes.
