Program #2079
New Music from Spain highlights this edition of New Sounds. While flamenco defines the cultural spirit of this country, there is far more to Spanish music. Cádiz-born guitarist Suso Saiz is among the most versatile of today's Spanish artists with roots in jazz, pop, and avant-garde styles. We'll hear selections from his 1991 CD, Simbolos. The three-member group Radio Tarifa draws on a mosaic of Iberian cultures, including African and Arabic percussion. Also on tap is music by flamenco guitarist Juan Martin (pictured right), and a New Sounds Live performance by Virginia Luque, a protégé of Andres Segovia whose career has been fast on the rise.

New Sounds Essentials: World Music
New Sounds
Airs daily at 11PM on 93.9 FM
New Sounds presents another night of recommended recordings, this time in the “world music” vein. Hear selections by the Algeria-born and San Francisco-based DJ Cheb I Sabbah, Ethiopian soul singer Mahmoud Ahmed, and others.
Away From Jazz
New Sounds
airs daily at 11PM on 93.9 FM
For this New Sounds, get a load of jazz musicians stepping away from the jazz tradition. There's music from punkass jazz melody-makers Gutbucket off of their latest release, "A Modest Proposal." Also, we'll hear from the latest by Matthew Shipp, called "Harmony and Abyss" and much more.
In Robert Moran's Kitchen
New Sounds
From October 30, 1989, the infamous "cooking show" with composer/raconteur Robert Moran. Recorded while cooking an Indian dinner in John Schaefer's kitchen, for reasons still not entirely clear. Along the way, we hear an "acoustic" version of Cage's 0:00 - for amplification of chopping vegetables and blender. And don't miss the teary conversation as onions are chopped. View the the recipes.

Hi,
I am so happy that I found this website, where you have a great performance by Virginia Luque, classical guitarist.
I agreed with your comment ''neat'',at the end of listening "La Romería'' one of her compositions. Awesome guitarist!
I have tried to found out if she has a CD recorded, but only was able to find out a website in S. Korea that has a CD or Vinyl LP from Virginia under the title Virginia Luque, La Romería, the website is:
http://www.court.co.kr/music/classic_list.asp?page1=1&g=&p2=&p1=&page=4
It is rare but the Vinyl or CD can't be found in USA.
I will like to know if this podcast #2079 is downloadable and if there are any more programs with Virginia Luque's participation?
Actually I found a video from her at youtube, where she plays a new version for -Gran Jota. (This piece is very difficult and stresses the left arm a lot.)My goodness this lady is amazing at the guitar. I haven't heard no one like her with that command on her right hand and the passion she transpires through the guitar!
You can view -Virginia Luque New Version Of Gran Jota- at:

Thanks again for these great programs you have in your library, you don't have an idea how many people around the world are looking for the Lady of the Guitar without no name, since her videos got her way on the Internet (without her name on them), since they were put on without her authorization, even in Vietnam those who love classical guitar music, call her ''the machine-gunner'' for her speed with the guitar chords...It is unfair to her, but I hope some day she will be recognized as the great guitarist she is and proudly called by her name!
Well let me know if you yave more recordings (new sounds past programs) or info. regarding this classical guitar Virtuosa Virginia Luque.
Best regards,
Juvet Armand
