Program #2123
For over half a century, some of the freshest currents in electronic music have emerged from university music departments. This continues today, as we hear in this look at computer music from around the world. We hear "Dan’s Toys" by Brad Garton, who is director of the Computer Music Center at Columbia University. Also on the program is Daniel Trueman, a faculty member at Princeton University, and whose "Study II" employs an electric violin manipulated by foot-pedal. Brad Lubman (pictured) teaches at the Eastman School of Music, where he conducts frequently and directs the Musica Nova Ensemble. Rounding out this institutional extravaganza is music by Neil Rolnick, who has enjoyed a long and fertile affiliation with the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY.

Away From Jazz
New Sounds
airs daily at 11PM on 93.9 FM
For this New Sounds, get a load of jazz musicians stepping away from the jazz tradition. There's music from punkass jazz melody-makers Gutbucket off of their latest release, "A Modest Proposal." Also, we'll hear from the latest by Matthew Shipp, called "Harmony and Abyss" and much more.
In Robert Moran's Kitchen
New Sounds
From October 30, 1989, the infamous "cooking show" with composer/raconteur Robert Moran. Recorded while cooking an Indian dinner in John Schaefer's kitchen, for reasons still not entirely clear. Along the way, we hear an "acoustic" version of Cage's 0:00 - for amplification of chopping vegetables and blender. And don't miss the teary conversation as onions are chopped. View the the recipes.
