On this edition of New Sounds we hear Part five of the New Sounds Live/New York Guitar Festival Marathon Concert, a nine-hour extravaganza recorded in January 2002 at the 92 Street Y. The program consists entiredly of "covers." Electric guitarist Russell Donnellon, who uses elements of jazz and flamenco, teases out inner harmonic lines from Radiohead's "Karma Police." Michael Manring plays Bach and The Beatles on electric bass guitar; The Brazilian Guitar Quartet also plays Bach; while the Andy Summers Trio peales through the Monk and sails across Mingus. Monk is also on the program of Alex De Grassi. Finally, Bill Sims, Jr. does Hank Williams’s "Jambalaya."

New Sounds
From October 30, 1989, the infamous "cooking show" with composer/raconteur Robert Moran. Recorded while cooking an Indian dinner in John Schaefer's kitchen, for reasons still not entirely clear. Along the way, we hear an "acoustic" version of Cage's 0:00 - for amplification of chopping vegetables and blender. And don't miss the teary conversation as onions are chopped. View the the recipes.
