With the New York Guitar Festival in town, it's perfect time to take a closer listen to some of the event's marquee guest artists. British guitarist Justin Adams makes his U.S. solo debut at this year's fest, although he's been here before -- buffs may remember him backing up Robert Plant on the recent Led Zeppelin tour. His own CD Desert Road (World Village) explores Moroccan- and Malian-inflected sounds against Western blues traditions. Downtown experimentalist Elliott Sharp is known for his electronic music and sound installations, and here we explore his acoustic, blues-guitar film score Yellowman. And we encounter the Campbell Brother's feverish brand of sacred-steel style, a rare sound rooted African-American gospel music and electric steel guitar.

From October 30, 1989, the infamous "cooking show" with composer/raconteur Robert Moran. Recorded while cooking an Indian dinner in John Schaefer's kitchen, for reasons still not entirely clear. Along the way, we hear an "acoustic" version of Cage's 0:00 - for amplification of chopping vegetables and blender. And don't miss the teary conversation as onions are chopped. View the the recipes.
