New Sounds

Ken Field

Program #2217

Show #2217

Thursday, November 13, 2003

Hear some outrageous works for saxophone on this New Sounds program, including the Lounge Lizards’ “Bob the Bob” which creeps up on you backwards and then runs into some serious rhythms. Also, tunes from saxophonist Ken Field and his Revolutionary Snake Ensemble, who have just put out a fabulous Mardi Gras-themed album of horn-heavy, funky, and energetic party music. Field also plays with the legendary "rocking chamber quartet" Birdsongs of the Mesozoic and composes for "Sesame Street." Plus, L. Shankar’s work “Paper Nut”; works by the fine and most unusual World Saxophone Quartet with its four-saxophone format and free vocabulary; and much more.
