For this New Sounds, we'll hear music from the unexpected and irresistible collaboration between Richmond, VA's Fight the Big Bull (9-piece avant jazz band), and San Francisco-based songwriter/ composer/musician (with a background in hymn singing) David Karsten Daniels, "I Mean to Live Here Still."
It’s a gorgeously orchestrated bit of post-jazz (swamp meets fog) folk-pop using texts by Henry David Thoreau. Think exuberant swirling melodies and big band horn swells of joy! Also, we’ll take a sneak peek listen to Bang on a Can’s street band, Asphalt Orchestra, playing Balkan brass band music by Goran Bregovic. Plus, Sun Ra and the Arkestra plays “Pink Elephants On Parade” from Disney’s Dumbo, Either/Orchestra plays music from King Crimson and the Lounge Lizards play music by John Lurie.

Mr. John Lurie, The Loung Lizzards, Marvin Pontiac and his unique primative,yet almost child like paintings,the rawness and original sound, site and soul, our generation musician, thinker, but most of all artist, in the same catagory as Miles Davis and John Coltrane with some extra special colors..... it's an african swim............ alone.*
Mr. John Lurie, the Lounge lizzards, his paintings have spoken in my heart as Marvin Pontiac and all his genius..... he is the Miles Davis and John Coltrane here, but he is John Lurie! with primative images in site and sound and so unique in all his doings....
one of a kind,one in a million, and that is so rare to find.... these days...... thank you for your music, art and movies!!!! alone....
