Episode #3217
Balkan (Brass) Band Battle/Party
Tuesday, June 21, 2011
It’s a Balkan Brass Battle Royale on this New Sounds between two of the best Balkan Brass bands - Boban I Marko Markovic Orchestra from Serbia, along with Fanfare Ciocarlia from Romania. From a brand-new record, listen to these two notorious outfits blow each other away, and play nicely together on a few tracks as well. More is just better!
We’ll also hear collaborative works by the two heavyweights; Fanfare Ciocarlia with the Queen of the Gypsies, Esma Redzepova, and Boban Markovic together with Frank London’s Klezmer Brass All-Stars. Plus, hear the Kocani Orkestar from Macedonia with L’Orient Est Rouge (the East is Red) and the cosmopolitan Sandy Lopicic Orchestar from Slovenia doing “Cocek” from their record, “Balkea.” And much more.

@enlightened from Queens. Thanks (Eek!) for catching our error. It has been fixed on the archive. Enjoy the actual Freylekhs/Cocek #5.
@confused - Sorry about that!
Ah ha, I think I see the mistake. Asfalt Tango was apparently played back to back by mistake. It is a great song but it comes at the expense of both Cocek 4 and Freylekhs/Cocek #5. If you ever find these songs, please post on website, as I'd love to hear them. They are great music!
I did not hear Freylekhs/Cocek #5. What is the name of the song that was actually played directly after Fanfare Ciocarlia feat. Esma Redzepova.
I work late every night and I usually listen to your show. Wow. Tonight I really needed it. Thanks!
