Listen to some updated folksong arrangements, arrangements of medieval songs, and music that looks to other world traditions, all from Norway. The updated folk comes to us from a collection of ballads, hymns, lullabies, sung by Trio Medieval, and we'll also hear Norwegian medieval song by Jan Garbarek & Agnes Buen Garnas.
Plus, there's an old Norwegian folk hymn – with mighty power chords on a church organ. And more.

I have been listening to John Schaefer show, New Sounds, since 1984 but have not been able to catch them all since I am away from the area on many occassions. I was just wondering if the music of Geoff Knorr & Michael Curran ( composers for the PC game Civilization 5 ) had ever been featured on the show. Thank you.
That was an extraordinary show last night, New Music from Norway! I love Jan Garbereck and Trio Medieval!
What was just playing around 11:40? I missed the name but heard the album was called "Folk Songs"...it might just be that I'm using my phone, but I can't find the playlist.
New Music from Norway: Beautiful programming!
