Comments [1]
I listened to your program last night and heard the interview you conducted with a musician from Puerto Rico who recently was awarded the $500K grant from the McCarthur Foundation.
What surprised me was when you questioned him on the root of his drumming as having come from West Africa he corrected you and said, "No, it is Spanish." What surprised me more was you didn't take issue with him since you have had such wonderful and educational programs recently on West African music. Since he was awarded this large sum of money it surprised me the foundation didn't check further into how this man traces the history of his drumming music. If Spain had drumming, it came from North Africa and certainly was not of their own making.
Following him was a musician who claimed his roots to both Ireland and West Africa.
Thank you
Ernie Bynum
