Thank you for this show. I had never heard of David Lang before despite my love for composers like Arvo Pärt, Steve Reich, Morton Feldman and others. Always nice to add another interesting composer to one's library. Great show, great music!
I'm a writer and editor and have been a casual follower of new music since coming to NYC in 1978. I've been a semi-faithful listener to New Music since it went on the air (sometimes jobs have interfered with my listening). I don't think I have ever been more moved by a program than by the program you've called "David Lang Checks In." To this layperson's ear, Lang's work has always been of a satisfying formal daring. And more and more as his work progresses he somehow manages to fill those beautiful vessels with emotional content that strikes deeper and deeper. Thanks to John for the terrific show, and to David Lang for his ever more astonishing compositions. Long may he thrive. --Jim Eigo
