You got me, Jonathan. Yes, I am guilty of programming lots of guitar-based shows over the years. And yes, it's partly a personal thing - I'm an old hack at the instrument myself. But in my defense, I should say that the guitar community is a particularly large and active one, and the NY Guitar Festival, which I sort of inadvertently co-founded with a series of New Sounds Live concerts back in the 90s, has provided a goldmine of great material. I try to space them out, but there's just so much good stuff coming in...
Nothing personal or critical here, but...I may be wrong, but I've noticed a preponderance of guitar-only shows over the years--which I enjoy greatly. But...is there any hidden or personal preference that may explain this, or is there just so much of it out there? I remember way back when Kronos started a string quartet revival. Maybe now it is (or has been for awhile--I'm probably slow on the uptake) guitars. Any ideas on what's next? Nico Muhly and friends?
