It has never been possible to download New Sounds from the WNYC site.
Perhaps you're thinking of the other show John Schaefer hosts, Soundcheck? That program has select portions that you can download.
Although, stay tuned, there will be a New Sounds podcast launching in the spring.

I am disappointed that it is no longer possible to download the audio files from the WNYC site. I love the show and when I hear an especially good program I download it to listen again on my MP3 player. Now I can't do that; to be able to sit in front of the computer and listen is useless. Effectively there are no audio files available now.
