Has anyone been to the News Quiz USA in person? I've been to a couple in London, and they are (in a nutshell): hilarious, extremely clever and much much longer than what goes out on the airwaves. That's because so much is libelous, slanderous and frequently foul-mouthed. All taken in its stride by the London audience (kids and all). Both times I have been surprised at how many European and American accents you hear on the way in and out. Is the US version similar in that regard i.e. more than slightly risqué and somewhat sanitised for the radio audience? It's an absolutely fantastic way to spend some of the funds raised by the TV licence!
Completely disagree with Richard and RJ (same person?).
I know and love the original and I also loved this one. Of course the British version is a bit better at the moment, but then they've had decades of practise. Lewis Black is brillaintly funny and very likeable and his contestants were as well. Really hope you'll pick up this show.
Didn't enjoy this podcast. Not nearly as good as the original UK version. Although I was intrigued with the concept of an American version, I wish that I hadn't listened to it. It is now deleted from my iTunes and good riddance. I won't be subscribing to it even if it is free.
An mp3 is available via the BBC: http://downloads.bbc.co.uk/podcasts/radio4/comedy/comedy_20120326-0400a.mp3
News Quiz USA is the non-funny American stepchild of the original and should be sent to a boarding school for a very long time. Sandi Toksvig should be ashamed that this show has anything to do with the UK original.
No audio available? Really??
Please???
Loved it! More, please.
Enjoyed it but felt 1/2 an hour of the the News Quiz wasn't worth missing an hour of Le Show.
Had long wished that you would go ahead and replace that boring regional show, the one with the long pauses and cringingly forced jokes that even the locals in Wisconson don't think are funny, but which inexplicably turned up every Saturday night on this major NY station (alongside that dreadful, neverending nostalgia show on AM). And suddenly -- a masterstroke! -- Newsquiz USA. I agree with Jim from NYC -- why not an hour. Or, if not possible, to build on jennifer tobias from east village's great idea why not pair this version with the British version, back to back. Perfect time slot, too. And now, with Left Right & Center immediately following it, I don't have to wake up at 6:30 Sun. morn., or bother with podcasts. Only regret you didn't put LR&C in its new slot when it featured Ariana Huffington and that conservative guy with the fading British accent, who recently died.
I'm very disappointed that I missed the show. Is there a podcast out there? Does anyone have a recording they'd share?
Loved the BBC news quiz!
Initially a little miffed to miss Le Show but now I am miffed that the news quiz is only 1/2 hour long! Why not an hour!?
Love the BBC News Quiz. So clever!
Listened to it passing through NY & CT on my way from PA to MA. PLEASE WBUR carry this show. Black is a national treasure. Anyone see his Glenn Beck tirade on The Daily Show a year ago? "Beck uses more Swastickas than the History Channel." (Find it on You Tube!!)
The News Quiz with host Lewis Black
Was hilarious. Please bring it back.
We need satire fare
Like this on the air.
For great humor, this team has a knack.

What a clever, clever idea, using Lewis Black to moderate a show like this one. I found it snappy, informative and very, very funny. I'd love to see this on your weekly schedule. I know my wife and I would most definitely tune in regularly for it.
As a resident of the most richly satirical state in the country, I say more, more, more!!
Loved it! Funny, clever and smart. More, please!
Loved it. Bring it to WAMU. Really well done show, and I'm a big fan of the original.
Not bad, but it sounds a lot of "Wait, Wait Don't Tell Me," which I think is better. I also prefer Harry Schearer's richly satiric "Le Show," and was disappointed that it wasn't on tonight. I don't recall any announcements that it wouldn't be on.
I think it would be great Le Show to the FM side at the same time time slot. The sound would be much better, quite appropriate with Harry's impressions and musical selections. Frankly I don't think WNYC does enough to promote this show. I only discovered it in early fall, perhaps because I have my radios generally tuned to am.
too scripted.
A good start. It took Sandi Toksvig and the British panelists many years to reach the heights of excellence found in the BBC show that this hopes to emulate so let's give this team time to find their feet. Please make this a regular show.
Great show - We need good satire and humor to get though the insanity of todays politics. Lewis Black is always great!.
Need more of this kind of "news analysis".
Good first try. Black and Borowitz were great. Just needs to get sharper political satire.
The BBC version is snappier and more up-tempo, which I prefer. The need to explain things about the US to the UK audience contributes to slowing it down. Otherwise, the transfer to this side of the pond seems to work.
Loved it! Please make this a weekly. I live in Montana and listen to WNYC for great news ad culture:)
Enjoyed the show very much! Shows like "Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me!" and this are a great way to engage people in important issues.
This was great! Please make more!!!!!!!!! Weekly.
Very funny panel!
Loved it!! Please make it a weekly show it was brilliant and funny!
Funny.
That was good. Leave it in, but you have to make room for LeShow, too.
I am loving this show. Black and Borowitz are hilarious. Will this be a regular series, or is it just a special? Would be great as a weekly show.
i did not find this funny at all. Harry Shearer is clever and funny. This News Quiz is neither.
Brilliant! Keep it on!
I would love to add this program to my weekly listening, either on-air, or as a podcast.
Brilliant! Please add it to the regular lineup.
Hey WBUR and WGBH (don't make me choose between you), you should definitely broadcast this very funny smart show! I must say that I'm not clear on how my commenting on the WNYC website will accomplish this...
Loved the quiz show; I've been listening to the BBC Brit version via podcast and enjoyed the USA version last night on my radio. It'd be so awesome if you could do more of these; once a week would be great but if you couldn't do that I'll be grateful for any you can do.
NPR in Connecticut needs this show. NPR CT has lost some cred with some if its current local programming. Feh!
Very funny show. Obviously, I heard it through the Internet. It would be nice if they would bring it to our local NPR station here in Dallas.
Please bring Black Borowitz to Nashville NOR!
Loved this show-please bring it in as a weekly! I always listen to the British version of the show, we should have our own version of it.
Bring the show to WSHU in CT!
Please come to New Orleans! Anytime is the right time!
Love Borowitz! Podcast?
Please bring the show to WBUR in Boston
Love the show! Please make it a podcast so I can listen at will!
The show was superb. Ah but that we could hear it regularly in the Houston area. Borowitz is a phenomenon.
Loved the show! Please bring it to Michigan Radio.
PLEASE bring this show to the DFW metroplex!
Please bring News Quiz USA to WAMU in DC!
Yes please
Bring this to saint louis public radio , please!
I would love to have this show on WAMU in DC.
I have a pretty high tolerance for public radio, but I thought this show was really lame -- maybe not the concept but certainly the execution. Could the responses (supposedly extemporaneous?) have been more rehearsed? Could the "jokes", many seemingly aimed at the Brits, have been weaker? Ping Pong qualifies as a rugged British sport -- har har. Has anyone seen a rugby match?
Five minutes on why higher gas prices are not Obama's fault do not, in my view, qualify as a laff riot.
Maybe this concept, like marmite, loses its appeal outside the UK. These are all funny people -- how about turning them loose next time. And while I'm a bleeding heart liberal, maybe include a humorous conservative (hopefully not a total oxymoron -- P.J. O'Rourke?) to liven things up. The one bright light, to my surprise, was Lewis Black, who I didn't think would be Public Radio friendly.
I listened and would listen again, and again if its weekly. Another good British import. Keep Andy Borowitz and Lewis Black on the panel, they are hilarious.
this was an awesome show! We want more!!!
Very funny show, this would be a nice addition to the regular lineup.
Love the show - is there any chance we could have this happen regularly?
Totally loved this show! I live outside the listening area but caught it online. Lewis Black and Andy Borowitz on the same show? C'mon! Make it a series, our country needs all the laughs it can get, especially about politics and current events.
This was hilarious! Andy Borowitz is brilliant and Lewis Black is even funnier when he's not shouting! Good to hear St. Louis's own Kathleen Madigan, too! An election year, esp. THIS one with its wild & wacky GOP race, is the perfect time to launch a USA version of this!
This sounds like a great show, is there a podcast available?
Great show! Weekly please.
A lot of fun. Please keep it on.
Lewis AND Andy?! Loved it! Would tune in weekly for sure. Here's hoping
This was great! I'd love to see this show continue, especially given that this is an election year so there is certainly going to be plenty to cover :->
Yes, far too little intelligent comedy/satire on the airwaves. MORE!
Funny show! Please have it on weekly in addition to Michael Feldman.
This was a great show; very funny yet informative. Please add it to your regular line-up.
This is a perfect new show for the station. Make it a regular thing!!
Great show --funny and informative. Current events should always be satirized this skillfully.
This is GREAT! But, what else would you expect from Andy Borrowitz!
You almost killed me driving home from a gig in New Jersey tonight, I was laughing so much. Great show, funny and smart!
This show is about one thousand times funnier than Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me. Andy Borowitz and Lewis Black were both brilliant. Hope this becomes a weekly show on WNYC.
Loved the show -- smart and witty. Hope it becomes a regular feature.
Great show, very funny . It is perfect for the slot. We like it a lot, we were ready for a change.
Not sure how you can compare 2 hours of Michael Feldman to 30 minutes of Wait Wait Don't Tell me on steroids. Great show.
As a regular listener to the original News Quiz, I thought it had its moments. Also, I'd love to hear our panellists Sandy Toksvig, Andy Hamilton and Jeremy Hardy let loose over here. Better ambassadors than Lord Snooty (Cameron) any day.
Our family normally listens to a CT NPR show with Irish music after Garrison Keillor. After listening to The Quiz we wonder if you might consider running this half hour segment 8 times tomorrow, starting at noon? OK, throw in one Sinatra tune per hour but really, we would listen!!!
Very clever. I'm on board. Lewis Black, perfect fit.
very enjoyable
Anything with Lewis Black is good. Never listened to Michael Feldman, so don't know how it compares.
Good show. Never heard before and was nice to discover.
I like Feldman and especially his intro lines and jazz music. but something new would be good.
Thanks
Andre
I loved the shoe, and would love to also hear Michael Feldman.
After tonight's New Quiz, I get it. Louis Black's stand-up is garbage. He is terrible on John Stewart. On NPR, I get it, he works, keep him.
That was the funniest show I have ever heard. I LOVE LOVE LOVE it! Great time slot.
fun! hope you'll give the show a chance to hit its stride. consider adding a brit to the mix of players? meanwhile, i wonder how it will be received in the UK. also, wnyc, consider subscribing to the british version!
I thought it was fun, a good followup to Garrison Keillor. Love Lewis Black!
Great show! Very funny and smart.
Love it! Can we have it in ADDITION to Michael Feldman???
Love the show, lots of fun. The two comments above me, people, lighten up, embrace change.
This is very funny.
The president of Syria is Bashar al-Assad, not his dead father Hafez. Come on, that wasn't even part of a joke!
Put Michael Feldman back in this slot. I am changing the station now. Ruining my Saturday evening
