Director Mike Nichols continues his award-winning streak with a recent Emmy Award for Best Directing for “Angels in America;” the Kennedy Center Honor in 2003 and the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Directors Guild of America in 2004. But music also continues to empower him as “Mad About Music” revisits his earlier appearance on the show, where he reveals his favorite composers (Strauss, Schubert, Beethoven, Mozart); why he is mostly attracted to “slow and sweet” music and prefers opera and concerts over symphonies as well as the suggestive power of music, such as the final trio from Strauss’s Rosenkavalier“just out and out, a way of getting girls.”
