Underreported: Geo-Engineering and Global Warming
Thursday, August 13, 2009
As the threat of Global Warming grows more urgent, some scientists are looking at ways to change the climate through geo-engineering. Proposals include everything from sulfur-dioxide spewing zeppelins to simply blocking out the sun. The only catch is that most of these technologies come with dangerous and extremely undesirable side effects. Graeme Woodwrote about geo-engineering for the July/August issue of the Atlantic Magazine.

probably this is a bit inappropriate question here, but i have a problem with, what i see, growing number of long term, established scientists (not every time climatologists, but close enough to have a valid and educated opinion in a climate subject) who say that official theory about global warming (a long term of climate change) is a politically driven hoax. they provide all sorts of arguments and data, sometime very interesting, but they don't publish them in peer reviewed magazines like science or nature absence of these opinions suggests that there is no debate about global warming but in fact there is, and some time on a very high scientific level. would it be possible to hear some clarification on that issue or even make a new segment about it?
or maybe some king listener would point me to the a good, solid source on "how to talk to global warming skeptic or denier" :). a decent debate with solid arguments from both sides.

looks like chemtrails conspiracy theory could be justified. ;) r
Echoing Bob. Your old station, Leonard, WBAI was discussing this the other day in regards to aluminum discharge from planes intentionally being sprayed from planes in the upper atmosphere. I'm not one for conspiracy theories but I'm very curious why they're doing that.
Additionally, I recognize that we measure rising temperature by the overall increase per year rather than how mild our summers seem to be getting, but is there any noticeable progress to retard the rate of rising temperature via geo-engineering or is simply it too early to tell?
How does dimming the sun deal with acidification of the oceans? Absorbing carbon dioxide is killing our oceans.
Global dimming has been related to decreased evaporation and rainfall. Wouldn't shading the earth then affect rainfall?
Spectacular Hudson River sunsets due to coal particles and other pollution inspired 19th C. painters like Frederic Church. Check out the Met Museum.
We can't even talk about health care. Can you imagine the town hall meetings about some of these geoengineering proposals!!!
I think a great story for "Underreported" would be about population control. Since the environment has been a hot topic for so many mainstream politicians, population control has been mysteriously ignored as a major solution to global warming.
