Lost Boy

Thursday, May 21, 2009

The Mormon splinter group, the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (FDLS) and their leader Warren Jeffs have been in the news lately for practicing polygamy. But in his memoir Lost Boy, one of Jeffs' nephews, Brent Jeffs, reveals the harsh treatment boys receive in the FDLS compound.

Darn shame that someone could victimize children so brutally. There is no punishment good enough for the abusers.

    No excuse.

It seems almost inevitable that the sexual molestation of children will become epidemic in a closed patriarchal society. Witness the scandals in the Catholic Church a few years ago and more recent information coming to light about the Hasidic and Amish communities. Why is this? And is it really more widespread in these communities than in the community at large, or is it just that these all-powerful patriarchs have the authority to cover it up and allow it to continue?

Can you ask your guest if he saw the Oprah show on the FLDS ranch and what his thoughts are if he did see it? Were they lying to her?

FLDS, LDS. Same crap. Get real. We are a despicable specie. And so are our 'delirious human tales of a glorified life and entity beyond'...

    Thanks for changing the image.

But, LOL, I'm afraid you've still got a little bit of a problem, although not as bad as before:

Mormons don't use the cross as a symbol.

We prefer to emphasize Christ's resurrection over his death, and we believe he paid for the sins of mankind in the Garden of Gethsemane, not on the cross.

I suspect this is also true of the FLDS crowd, although I don't know for sure.

I know you wouldn't have any way of knowing these details. But they have a bit of an impact on how knowledgeable about Mormonism your program appears.
