Pipe Dreams

Wednesday, April 08, 2009

During the 2008 Presidential campaign Governor Sarah Palin often touted a $40 Billion dollar deal she helped strike for a new natural-gas pipeline in Alaska. But, Joe McGinniss reports that the pipeline has little chance of ever being built and Governor Palin has virtually ignored the issue, despite pressure from the Obama Administration to get the project underway. McGinniss’s article "Pipe Dreams" appears in the April issue of Condé Nast Portfolio.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if she becomes a commentator for NPR.

People, such as Palin in the quote played on air, like to dub natural gas as green and clean, but the show seems to suggest that natural gas and oil are quite intertwined. Any comment?

there is something not quite right with this guy and his story. he sounds like he has an agenda and an attitude. where is the substance behind his story. i don't like his tone and attitude. i don't trust or believe this guy.

i'm a liberal dem and no palin fan, but, i'm not keen on this guy either.

btw, pipelines in alaska are above ground, so digging is not applicable.

    cheers,

    ted

Leonard - it is not a fault that makes Italy a seismically active place, it is the subduction zone running beneath the entire Mediterranean created by the slow collision of the African and European continents.

oil, gas, and salt water coexist in the same reservoirs and are often produced together.

when oil is produced there is aalmost lways an associated amount of gas that that is produced as well. there are some reservoirs that are almost totally gas that produce a small amount of distillate oil (known as condensate). alaska has some almost exclusively gas fields that haven't been developed (exxon's point thompson field is one) because of a lack of method to get the gas to market, but the main prudhoe bay fields produce oil w/ some associated natural gas that is typically reinjected in the reservoir.
