I don't know why causcasians are always amazed that people in lower income brackets often living below the poverty level are "articulate" or intelligent people. Lack of wealth does not equal ignorance.

The phrase means, that you will become be "unseen" by the people you are leaving. Clever huh?

I wonder if the author has any thoughts on the long tenure of former Mayor Coleman Young and its effect on the city. Did it stifle innovation and a diverse range of voices? Was he able to reach young people? What about the political leadership since then?

That is because young Black folks are often taught Christian values by the parents/grandparents and when in trouble, you fall on your faith.

Wow Leonard again....all young people living in impoverished neighbor hoods are NOT in gangs!!!

Their are lots of empoverished weed smoking, drug dealing whites also in Detroit. They do have trailer parks....Eminem.

That's the problem, too much TV!

I have to tune out now this segment and hearing whites discuss this subject is frustrating to me. Chock full o'stereotypes.

Thanks for having Luke on the show today. I will check out his book and try to make his event tonight. I just wish he had more air time!
