Food Matters
In his numerous cookbooks and his New York Times column,
The Minimalist, food writer Mark Bittman has offered recipes on how to cook just about everything. In his latest book, Food Matters, Bittman advances the idea of rethinking consumption and offers a plan for responsible eating that is good for the consumer and the planet.

Redefining Family
According to editor Rebecca Walker, the traditional American nuclear family has changed dramatically over the past three decades. Walker has compiled 18 essays from the new frontiers in American family life in the book One Big Happy Family, which covers everything from open-marriages to gay adoption. We’ll also be joined by two contributors to the anthology, Liza Monroy and Asha Bandele.

Tributes: Jeanne-Claude
The Leonard Lopate Show
Jeanne-Claude created environmental works of art with her husband and fellow-conspirator/collaborator Christo. Together, they wrapped the Reichstag in Berlin, the Pont-Neuf in Paris, and created The Gates, with billowy orange drapes, in Central Park. Jeanne-Claude just died at the age of 74. You can hear Leonard Lopate’s last interview with them both, from July 19, 1999.

Dr. Urvashi Rangan, Project Director for Consumer Reports' GreenerChoices.org and Consumers Union’s Senior Scientist for Policy Initiatives, and Dara O'Rourke, founder and CEO of GoodGuide.com, took a look at what eco-labels indicate, how standards are set, and what they mean for consumers and manufacturers around the world.
