Wasn't Hillary counting on Edwards staying in 'till the end, but when he dropped out after S. Tue. Obama no longer had to split votes? That tanked Hillary until she could reinvent herself as the female Edward's regular-people-person -- too late.

I think Chuck Todd said it best on Fresh Air: Barack Obama and his team read the book on how to win the Democratic nomination, and Hillary Clinton and her team did not.

Didn't David Geffen think that airing out that "subtext" of Bill Clinton's continuing philandering on the Op-Ed page was maybe too much?

Obama won the Dem primary by looking like a super-progressive candidate that many dreamed of, though he was really a centrist in disguise (as many are finding out now, much to their dismay).

He won the general because of the perfect storm in the economy and because in the face of that storm he actually sounded sensible while his opponent was all over the place.
