  What a funny coincidence! I started reading Tales of a 4th Grade Nothing when I was in the 4th grade, and was actually so disturbed by the swallowed turtle that I had to stop reading. I was quite an animal lover.

  Now quite older, I know that I may have been missing out. But I did feel a bit of sympathy for the mother who also objected!

  When our daughter was away at camp in Maine about 25 years ago, I included a Judy Blume book, purchased at a local Manhatan bookstore, in a package of goodies. I did not realize that Ms. Blume wrote adult books as well as children's books and inadvertently sent one of the steamier adult books to our daughter. When we arrived for vising day, every girl in the camp seemed to know that I was Antonia's Mom!

  It is so wonderful to hear Judy Blume on the Lopate show.

  It is such a thrill to be able to share the books I was addicted to as a child with my own children (my 3 year old loves Pet-tah and Fudge). I learned about sex from Katherine & Michael; and unfortunately was all too prepared to wear a back brace just like Deenie's for scoliosis.

  Summer Sisters is a book I could read over and over and over. In fact, it's a book I HAVE read over and over and over! After the segment today, I realize how many of her books I haven't read before, and I'm eager to get started. Thanks so much for having her on.
