Making Art in Exile
Hear what it’s like to be an artist in exile. Leonard talks to South African writer Breyten Breytenbach and Croatian novelist Dubravka Ugresic. When Breytenbach and his Vietnamese wife tried to re-enter his native country in 1975, he was thrown in jail thanks to harsh anti-miscegenation laws. Ugresic now lives in Amsterdam; she left her country in 1991 after the media branded her a public enemy for criticizing nationalism and the war in the former Yugoslavia.

Breyten Breytenbach and Dubravka Ugrešić will be reading and speaking
Tues. Sept. 23rd at 8:00 pm
