We celebrate the 40th anniversary of New York magazine. A new book, New York Stories, is a collection of some of the magazine’s best articles over the years. Adam Moss is the magazine’s current editor; Gail Sheehy and Pete Hamill are longtime contributors.

to founding editor Clay Felker

While it's a fine idea to celebrate the anniversary of New York magazine--so deserving of celebration---it strikes me as weird to suggest that journalism--however you might like to define it--is better _these_ days than it generally was in the days before the advent of New York magazine!
Absurd.
New York magazine may be a fine periodical but, that aside, journalism is moving backward in general, just as American reading habits are in long and continuing decline.
Journalism better today? Ridiculous.
PS / "moving backward" above, means "deteriorating", declining", "worsening", etc. _not_ "moving backward to better days".
I moved to New York in late 1967, moved into my first apartment in February 1968, just in time to be welcomed to the City by New York Magazine -- and I really felt that way. The City wasn't far away from the fiscal crisis of the mid-70s but it was so exciting to be here then and have that wonderful magazine to guide me to what was new, interesting, exciting. Opening night of the Front Page, a Greek picnic for Opera in the Park, Sunday brunch at an Iris restaurant -- all found in the pages of New York magazine.
the mortgage crisis is not the result of the end of redlining as one of your guests said (implying that blacks were not lent money because they were un-creditworthy as a race)...the mortgage crisis simply and obviously resulted from money being lent without measuring the ability of borrowers to repay.
I've always felt that New York magazine is to what Village Voice readers graduate once they have real jobs.
that's funny i always thought it was for ohio goofs to know what to wear.
