Families Coping Post-9/11

Thursday, September 11, 2008

Hear how two families who lost loved ones on 9/11 have since been able to transform their loss into a desire to help others. Steve and Liz Alderman set up the Peter Alderman Foundation to heal the psychological scars of terrorism victims around the world; Sally and Donald Goodrich created the Peter M. Goodrich Memorial Foundation to strengthen Afghanistan’s education systems.

I am deeply moved by these inspirational people. Truely examples of the human spirit at its best.

Well, I started the day confident that I could finally make it through this anniversary without dissolving in tears, but I had not counted on your wonderful interview with the Aldermans and Goodriches. Of all the frustrations I feel about our current role and activities in the world, I am most distressed that we have been unable (or, in some quarters, unwilling) to convey to those cultures to which we are cyphers our extraordinary capacity for understanding and forgiveness and our unlimited desire to reach out to those who are suffering, as demonstrated so brilliantly and profoundly by these families and their efforts.
