I want to have insulation put in my attic and I'm concerned abut the use of fire retarents and the harmful effects of long term exposer . Each contractor tells me that their product is the safest one to use. I'm a parent and a cancer survivor, so the health of my family is extremely important.

Pls suggest some home made ideas for bulding a de-humidifier. Commercial ones are expensive and there has to be a way to do someting other than support capitalism , righ?

Also, my basement is super humid and a breeding ground for camel ckrickets. They are scarrrrry. How do I fight them? The basement is really not a basemnet so I cannot completely seal it and they will always have some access. But I am having nightmares about the damn crickets, HELP!

My mother's house has a roach infestation that is resisting commercial bug spray. Any other ideas? She has a cat.

    thank you.

I have a peaked roof over my garage, and I’d like to use the large area as storage space. Is it difficult to install a pull-down stepladder in the ceiling? The ceiling is about twelve feet high.

BTW, what is the cheapest way of heating up a small one fam house? I have propane, but it is very pricey and am thinking of installing electric heaters of some kind.

    Thanks, I love you guys!

Tell Elanor, who called about her dehumidifier, that there was a recall on LG dehumidifiers. LG makes Sears dehumidifiers.

Al and Larry should mention that all home owners should get home energy audits by a Building Performance Institute (BPI) certified auditor.

These audits are usually $200 or $300. The homeowner gets a computer printout listing the most cost effective energy conservation measures to take and the payback period.

And never use guys who sell boilers, windows, etc. Use someone who ONLY does energy audits.
