Dee Dee Myers on Why Women Should Rule the World

Friday, July 04, 2008

Former White House press secretary Dee Dee Myers thinks that women should rule the world. In her new book, Why Women Should Rule the World, Ms. Myers explains why she says that with women in charge, businesses would be more profitable, communities would be healthier, and politics would be more collegial.

What Britain needs is an iron lady. – Margaret Thatcher

Yes, women do have valuable leadership skills, however, God gave women intuition and femininity; and they are both distractions to serious business.

I’m a grader schoolteacher who favors single sex/boarding schools.

The boys and girls performed better when they are not mixed.

"God gave women intuition and femininity; and they are both distractions to serious business."

    Nonsense.

"The boys and girls performed better when they are not mixed."

Perhaps, but that is completely irrelevant to the topic at hand.

What a disappointing discussion. Women are less likely to be dunces or geniuses? What spurious source is she quoting? I anticipated something more than just unproven trafficking in sexual stereotypes.

Myers' book had some interesting points. HOWEVER, this generation needs to understand that childcare is a mother-father situation--as was conception.

Having put my head down and having made advances in maternity leave and other women's issues,I am burned out and I do not want to hear women, such as my daughter feel that her company should be giving her extra leave time and making a sacrifice that neither she nor her husband expects his work world to experience. And then to have these women blame the women in the company for the adverse decisions! If the women in the company feel as I do, they probably feel that they are tired of being crusaders and it is now that time for the husbands to become 50 per cent of the childcare leave liability. I took the six weeks of medical leave that I was allowed. Then my family life became a joint project--must to the criticisms of society and family.

    Dear Sisters,

Just want to voice my concern that with John McCain running for office this election year Affirmative Action will once again be under attack. As an Arizonan and a Woman who's benefited from Affirmative Action I have to say that we WOMEN!!!! are really dropping the ball when it comes to AA. This program is more about Women than any other group or race. White women are the largest "group" in American and stand to benefit from AA more than black, or hispanics or any other group. This was designed for “Women and minorities”. NOT just minorities. If we don't take a stand NOW to preserve it, the same group of men that don't support a woman's right to choose, who bomp Women's clinics, and churches that SUPPORT WOMEN, will try to use OUR vote against Affirmative Action by making it a white and black thing. Well, if you really think about it, Affirmative Action is a Woman thing, then it's about race. I think we should make this election year about identifying Affirmative Action for what it is and who is really being SUPPORTED by it, and who's rights their really going after when then try to talk us into voting it down on some racial perspective. THIS IS ABOUT US!... and it is up to us to make it known. Not blacks. Not hispanics... but WOMEN!

    Rebecca
