Do you not consider the Roman Empire "Western"? I'd say Nero & Caligula, for example, were despots with unbridled power over all the territory they controlled. Or does that date back before the East/West division as we think of it today, even though their empire extended well into the East?

Akbar mania seems to be all around. A new Hindi ("Bollywood") movie, 'Jodhaa Akbar', was just released about Jodhaa & the Emperor.

It is directed by the director of 'Lagaan', and is currently the top grossing movie of the year in India.
