The Leonard Lopate Show

American Unity

It’s time to move beyond partisan politics, says Joseph Nilats, senior fellow at the American Unity Project. He has some ideas on how the U.S. electorate can become more unified.

Been done: Communist Party is a Unity Party.

Problem is lack of transparency -- the compromise is taking place but behind closed doors & w fewer voices.

If ya like health care why not simply create a "Health Care" party?

Frightening how closely the spokesman's loopy comments resemble those of real politicians. It's getter harder and harder to recognize an April Fool's prank!

This is too obvious. The previous interview was better done and funnier, IMO.

Wow, that was great. He let it hang in the air for a sec, and then..."and he wants me to lose my job."

Classic.

That was definitely a put-on, Patti. But I can't tell if Lenny was in on the joke. If so he certainly does play the straight man well.

DG (#7) beat me to it, but I'd like to agree--great job of playing it straight, Leonard! Makes it that much funnier.

And Mike (#5)? I'm reasonably sure the 1st 2 segments were for real. And the last one's description looks serious too, but I'll suspend judgment till I actually hear it....

You guys had me hooked! I kept thinking, "How did they not screen this guy better?" I should have known you'd have us laughing with this one for a reason.

Happy April Fool's Day!
