How does electronic voting help our democracy? Sen Hagel had ties to ES&S voting machines. People are concerned about these things and think that elections are getting fixed by these machines.

Hagel has been a Bush-enabler of the worst ... his 'maverick' image only surfaced when his vote would not change the outcome. Like everyone who voted for this needless war, he has blood on his hands.

..Wow, how refreshing to hear the very first Republican politician tell the straight truth. Al Qaeda had nothing to do with Iraq before we got there". That says it all about the state of the Presidents action in Iraq! He got screwed over by his own party.

I'm sick of this excuse that they did it to give the President diplomatic leverage. It was fairly obvious that he wsa going to go in come hell or high water... Everybody thought Saddam would reject 1441, and then he didn't. So then they had to try to find some other way to sell this...

Why can we not make peace with the Taliban and separate them from Al Kida. The Taliban was left out in the cold after the Soviet withdrawal. We left the vacuum that resulted in the attack on us. No Afghanistan's took part in the attack. Is any effort being made to address their valid grievance against us?

Also,

Hasn't the surge facilitated ethnic cleansing in Baghdad and now we are arming the very same insurgants that we were fighting.

My God... I mean, what is McCain thinking? I mean, I think withdrawal would be bad. I don't agree with leaving at this time... but honestly. Has he learned NOTHING from using this kind of intense, lofty rhetoric? I mean, you know when George Bush is giving more realistic assessments than you that you have taken leave of your senses...

my only question to all of those who are now running away from the Bush/Cheney administration, as opposed to those of us who bothered to 'unpatriotically' vote and speak out against them all along, is, what took you so long?

Being called a disloyal Republican is worse than being called unpatriotic? Kind of tells you something about where loyalty lies with the right...

What does Mr. Hagel think about Iran's program? The IAEA has given them a clean bill of health time after time and has certified that they have not been diverting civilian nuclear material for military purposes.

Also they are still bound by their original 1974 safeguards agreement because their parliament never approved the additional protocols.

So aren't we getting the same lies today that we got on Iraq?

The secret laptop that the CIA talks about involves the Iranian military trying to make Uranium tetraflouride (UF4) which makes no sense when they have IAEA safeguarded facilities making Uranium Hexaflouride (UF6) which brings you closer to making weapon's grade uranium.

I'm an Independent but I have always had tremendous respect for Senator Hagel's thoughtfulness and insight in the Senate. He’s made tough decisions on Iraq and in my view, has been right! Although I’m from New York, if I could, I would have voted for him were he running for reelection. I wish he were running for president.

The only way to stop terrorism is to create the circumstances that children do not grow up wanting to be terrorist. As far as this goes, Afghanistan and Iraq are not our biggest problem. The political problems in Egypt, Palestinian and Morocco present the fertile grounds for our fears. Who gave Arabia to the Saude family? Who decided that the Kurd's should have no nation? When people can associate without considering these imperialistic limitations we may be able to make progress? Why do we forget that food and water is the greatest weapon against these problems?
