Jeffrey Eugenides on Great Love Stories

Middlesex and The Virgin Suicides author Jeffrey Eugenides has edited a new collection of love stories, My Mistress's Sparrow Is Dead: Great Love Stories, from Chekhov to Munro. He says the book is "a cure for lovesickness and an antidote to adultery."

Speaking of editors cutting 1/3 of a book, I'd guess that Maxwell Perkins cut more than half of Thomas Wolfe. Such an interesting question -- whose book is it?

Favorite love story? Elsa and Rick, Eliz. and Mr. Darcy, and there must be others...
