    I love Ms. Brooks' book: Year of Wonder and have People of the Book on hold at the library! I find it interesting that she says that there were no illustrations on Jewish medieval works due to an interpretation of the command re: graven images. There are plenty of ancient Jewish Kesubos (marriage contracts), haggados, etc. with illustrations.

    I thought the city of Prague itself was meant as a museum or "monument" to an extinct race... What a great story...

    also the section that features "people of the book" is one of the koranic touchstones that progressive muslims look to for a divine mandate of tolerance and peace...
