Giuliani’s Shady Business Dealings

Rudy Giuliani has some shady business dealings in his past. Journalist Michael Shnayerson tells us more about those dealings…and why the media hasn’t paid much attention to that part of Giuliani’s history.

Weigh in: Do you think Giuliani has a chance at the Republican nomination?

Read Michael Shnayerson’s article in the Jan. Vanity Fair, "A Tale of Two Giulianis"

"Flu like symptoms" -- why does WNYC news keep reporting that as if it were...something else?

I am glad the truth about Giuliani is finally making the national news. His recent scandals are dragging him down in the polls. And his Christmas ad for Iowa TV was embarrassing.

I am baffled by the media's regurgitation of Giuliani’s story line. The media always uncritically reports that crime and welfare rolls plummeted during his tenure. However, they neglect to mention that, across the country, crime and welfare rolls plummeted during the same period Moreover, crime continued to decline each year in New York City after Giuliani left office.

The media need to spent some time reviewing the manner in which Giuliani governed the city. We need to explore Giuliani's contempt for the law (New York State Auditors were prevented from conducting audits of NYC entities to which they are legally entitled to perform.), contempt for Civil Society (Because the non-profit Citizen's Budget Commission was critical of Mayor's proposed budget, business contributors were threatened with loss of future city business if they contributed funds to the organization.) and contempt for the truth when it does not serve his view (Giuliani insinuated that Commissioner Bratton violated the City's code of ethics by accepting gifts from a wealthy friend.).

Question for your guest:

Why can't the press/investigative journalists bring out now, before he's elected or nominated, rather than later, the scandalous stuff which we'll later learn of which is worse than what is now known or suspected?---as has been the case with so many other elected officials.

You know Canada is looking more and more attractive everyday. If Giuliani becomes President , I am either becoming a Canadian or Mexican.

Giuliani? If this ruthless man should ever get elected president, it would only solidify my thinking about our citizenry.

Ever since George W got elected, (not once but twice), I've suspected we live in a nation of ignoramuses. A "President Giuliani" would only confirm my thinking.

And his former mistress/now wife as First Lady?

God help us all.
