Brooklyn Academy of Music’s Next Wave Festival

The Brooklyn Academy of Music is celebrating its 25th Next Wave Festival, a 3-month celebration of cutting-edge works in music, theater, and dance. Since its inception, the festival has provided audiences with works by Philip Glass, Laurie Anderson, Robert Wilson, and Mark Morris. Joining Leonard to speak about the history of the festival and this year’s offerings are Karen Brooks Hopkins, President of BAM, and Joseph V. Melillo, sole curator of all Next Wave programming.

The guest indicated the basic fact that New York City, is not about any one thing but celebrating the wonderful diversity of this great city, Leonard does not have this perspective unless you mean diversity as a Eurocentric perspective!!
One cannot overstate the importance of BAM, and in particular the work of your two guests on the Next Wave Festival in defining New York’s cultural landscape.
The vast majority of the most exiting and inspiring performances I’ve experienced over last twenty-five years (in any venue in any city) have been at BAM.
Why this advertisement for BAM? Why not Lincoln Center or the 92nd Street Y or any number of other cultural organizations? They're a worthy organization and all but it seems a little random...
