From Sudanese Refugee to International Supermodel

Wednesday, September 26, 2007

Born in the southern Sudan, Alek Wek knew only a few years of peace before she was caught up in civil war. She fled Sudan on foot and arrived in London, where she rose from young model to international supermodel. Her journey is recounted in Alek.

It's great to finally hear the articulate, thoughtful, self-assured voice that humanises the robot that is the fashion model. Alek, your Essence cover is the best; you look like a doll! Breathtakingly beautiful! I commend you on representing yourself and Africa with dignity and pride. I'll definitely buy your book. Stay blessed.
