Supercapitalism
Wednesday, September 05, 2007
Former Secretary of Labor Robert B. Reich believes that the triumph of global capitalism has come at the cost of democracy. In Supercapitalism, he argues that power has shifted away from us as citizens and toward us as consumers and investors. He joins Leonard to explain how we can separate capitalism from democracy, and what all of this means for developing economies.

Benjamin Barber makes a very similar arguement in "Consumed"

would secretary reich please comment on robert frank's suggestion this morning on WNYC that a progressive consumption tax would be helpful to our economy. thanks ted
why is corporate involvement in politics allowed? is it constitutional?
I like that idea of keeping the politicians ignorant of where the money is coming from. It would seem to answer everyone's problems of money corrupting the political process and at the same time allow money to be contributed.
